A credit score is a 3 digit number. It is very likely the most important number to you as an individual next to your Social Security Number. This number is calculated based upon information that is contained in your credit bureau reports. It is a dynamic number – which means that several factors affect its calculation on a daily basis.
The instant something changes in your credit report, your credit score changes. Well over 90% of all banks, lending institutions, and credit card companies use FICO credit scores to make lending decisions. Some use these numbers exclusively, others consider it as only one part of the puzzle.
However, I must tell you that in the current credit crisis we are involved in…no lender is going to extend you credit at the most attractive terms if you don’t have GREAT credit scores.
Everything else in your documentation may be in perfect order, but if you have even mid 600 FICO credit scores, you will probably be turned down!
Now, there is a ton of information (some good and some bad) on what exactly makes up the components of your credit scores. Just do a google search for credit repair or credit score repair and you will find thousands of websites that give you the details of the different percentages of factors that make up your accounts.
What I am trying to get across in this article is that you must guard your FICO credit scores with the same tenacity and diligence as you do with your Social Security Number. Read through my posts in other areas of the blog on how you can maximize your FICO credit scores.
There are some very basic things you can to to enhance your score that everybody knows about and conversely there are some sneaky insider tactics that almost nobody knows about on how to increase your FICO credit scores
